Problem with ptprn.exe in PCA 9.0 for DOS/Win 98

I run Peachtree for DOS v.9.0 on a new PII-450 system running Windows
98.  I receive error messages in my tape backup program and in Windows’
ScanDisk that make reference to the ptprn.exe file in the PCA folder.
Windows 98 evidently has a problem with a file with this name.
Peachtree seems to be running fine.  This problem never surfaced on my
previous Windows 95 system.  Does anyone know why this is happening, or
whether I need to be concerned?

Please CC any response to me at i…@curtistrade.com.

Thanks,
Jim Haberman

Import/Export utility

I find that PT 6.0 will not let me import things like Chart of
Accounts, Vendor List, Customer List, etc. from PT 3.0.  I exported
files to Excel, and, sure ‘nough, the fields have different headers
and header locations.  Does PT (or anybody) offer utilities to convert
the old data?
Thanks in advance.

Got my POA update

I received in the Saturday mail, Peachtree Office Accounting,
Service Pack 1.  There don’t seem to be any version upgrade
readme’s or explanations on the CDROM…. I wonder what’s the
deal.

Has POA CAB files dated Nov. 11, 1998, but everything else
seems older. Docs are 4/9/98, tutorial 4/14/98, banking 3/2/98,
ahhhhh here we go: Microsoft DAO versions 4/28/98 in new
directories dated 11/12/98, Microsoft mdac15_typ.exe is
dated 10/27/98.. hmmmmmmm.

Here is a definition of MDAC
http://www.microsoft.com/data/whatcom.htm

Maybe this is the version upgrade that makes it
compatible with users who own Visual Basic 6.0.

I seem to recall that when MS released Visual Studio 6,
it broke Peachtree Office Accounting.  Ironic, that the
companies like Peachtree Softare who make the most effort
to embrace Microsoft technologies, are rewarded by having
their applications crash whenever the kids in Redmond
issue a new version of the technology.

==============================
Question:  does the POA SP1 add anything except the bugfix
making it compatible with Bill Gates’ lastest Visual Studio?

Does it add any of the most-needed improvements (ability
to customize teh invoices, etc) mentioned on this forum?

Does it take away the amazing programmability that is
included in POA, out of the box?  You may recall that
Peachtree Office Acounting exposes thousands of properties,
methods and events, making them available to quite a
detailed level of programming by MS Access, Visual Basic,
Excel, etc. ** without any developers kit! **  This is
such a windfall, compared to lets say Solomon, which costs
over $15,000 before you even get close to this particular
functionality .

Here is a printscreen just to make it more graphic for you.

Is this significant or what? Be sure to read the whitepaper.

Once we combine the two inventories, we end up with first letter of

different inventories 1 having 2700 inventory tag number into computer that
has 1146 inventory tag number.  Both Computers started out with approximatly
600 same common part numbers and quantity entries . Also I should mention
that we are dealing with Peachtree 3.5

PCAW for Governmental Accounting???

I am Treasurer for a municipality that wants to take over the
accounting functions from a contractor.  We are looking at PCAW
version 6.

Governmental accounting is a little different from a business.  For
example, we have a half dozen Funds that must be handled seperately.
I gather this may best be accomplished by dedicating a range of
account numbers to each fund and basing reports on each range of
accounts.

Also, rather than profit and loss, our fund balance is increased or
decreased — i.e., the wording and some simple calculations at the
bottom of the income statement is different.  Similarly, rather than
retained earnings, we have a fund balance.

There are probably more special requirements than I know about.

Has anyone had experience with PCAW for governmental accounting?  If
so, how hard it is to make a not-quite round peg fit into this round
hole?
